I’m not going to lie. I’m kiiiiiinda obsessed with Friday Night Lights. You see, it’s been years since our family has had cable and we’ve never bothered to set up our television to get even the basic channels. So my husband and I watch everything via Netflix – even if it means we watch it a year or more after it’s gone off the air. It wasn’t until 2012 that we discovered Friday Night Lights and it was one of those shows where, when we got to the last episode, I resisted watching it for weeks because – just like a good book – I didn’t want it to end. When I eventually did watch the final episode, I mourned. Well, I’m happy to report that after a good little wait, we have started back at season 1 and it’s almost as good as the first time.
I was also a fan of football in high school (and if you know me well enough to be Facebook friends with me, you’ve probably seen a photo of me on my high school’s dance team – we called it Drill Team – on a very muggy, humid, bad-hair day; lucky you) as well as Hokie football in college. My husband, also a Hokie, loves college football as well.
A few weeks back I told him that we really oughta take our boys to a high school game and get them excited about it as well. So last night, we took them to their very first football game at a local high school in the city. Unlike the TV show, there were no Friday night lights – this field doesn’t have lights at all so all of their games are early in the day; which is lucky for us since bedtime is at 8pm. It was a gorgeous day with amazing blue skies and fun was had by all.
